Ukulele Death Squad + Tuck Shop Ladies + Yanai Morris + Melbourne Ukulele Kollective
Featuring the most dangerous ukulele band in the world!!
The Ukulele Death Squad along with the Tuck Shop Ladies, Yanai Morris and the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective – Saturday night unfolds in four acts all chosen to bring you up and leave you there, burning bright and hanging on the sun!
Ukulele Death Squad
“It’s like Tarantino met a travelling mariachi band and injected them with the punk ethos of The Saints and added flashes of folk and flamenco.”
— SCENESTR MAG
The UDS will warp your perceptions of ukuleles one nylon string at a time with stagecraft, mad thumping rhythms and outrageous solos, they will quite literally blow your minds. Toe-tappingly dangerous! The Death Squad take 4 strings to a new and excitingly mind-blowing level!
The Thin White Ukes
The Thin White Ukes launched their glittering journey through the endless labyrinth of the David Bowie songbook at MUF 2015.
Since then, the intrepid ukulele-harmony trio has toured from Perth to Darwin, Sydney to China, the Adelaide Fringe to the Brisbane Powerhouse, forever expanding their repertoire of ingeniously reconstructed Bowie classics to thrill hardcore and casual fans alike.
Coming off a very successful season at the Port Fairy Folk Festival - make sure you put on your red shoes. They'll be floating in a most peculiar way.
"Bowie with a darkness and delicacy that gives you goosebumps" — Angie Hart
"A new standard of what to expect from this humble instrument" — Steve Kilbey
"The best version of ‘Ashes To Ashes’ you ever heard" — Robert Forster
Yanai Morris
Bringing a fresh perspective to ukulele playing, Yanai Morris delivers a compelling performance through a combination of creative songwriting and arranging, masterful playing and authentic expression.
Yanai takes an experimental yet heartful approach to combining elements of folk, rock and jazz into a unique and eclectic repertoire of covers and originals.
Melbourne Ukulele Kollective
Since crashing through the tv screens of the nation in 2006 (Spicks and Specks: ABC TV) the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective is still boldly going where no ukuleles have gone before!
Equipped with only with 4 strings and the truth! The Melbourne Ukulele Kollective hit the stage with a sudden sunrise of sound and colour! MUK proclaimed the Ukulele Revolution had arrived back in 2004 and keep crossing borders, smashing boundaries and taking the ukulele to new outlandish heights! Renowned for playing hard, dressing up and smashing the audience.
The MUK will be bringing their new show “MUK Redemption” to the MUF this year.
“Redemption – The action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.”
MUK applies their rollicking style to a journey across the spectrum of fallen redemption telling a tale through music and costume that continues to push the small and mighty instrument!
